Dharmaraja inflict Dharmapala’s fifth defeat

Dharmaraja after conceding a first inning lead to Dharmapala struck back to record a five wicket win and to inflict Dharmapala’s fifth successive outright defeat in the Under 19 inter- school cricket encounter concluded at Pannipitiy­a yesterday.

The second day’s proceeding­s saw Dharmaraja in reply to the home team’s score of 162 resuming from their overnight score of 145 for 7 being restricted to a score of 156.

Later Dharmaraja bowlers Witharana and Dissanayak­e who together shared ten wickets between them combined to bowl out Dharmapala for a score of 148.

Dharmaraja set a target of 155 runs helped by useful knocks from N. Gunasinghe, W. Aludeniya and S. Tillekerat­ne needed only 35 runs to achieve their victory.

St Anne's off to a winning start

St Anne's College Kurunegala opened their new Cricket season with a fine 8 wicket victory over Rahula College Matara in their inter school under 19 division two Cricket tournament match concluded at Kurunegala.

After conceding first innings points to their opponents Annites came back strongly to dismiss Rahulians for just 53 in 33.3 overs in their second innings and knocked off the required 99 runs in 26.4 overs for the loss of two wickets. Junior national cap Vanitha Wanninayak­e scored a useful 60 for the winners.
