Gampaha snatches lead over Colombo

RESULTS

Defending champions Gamapaha Division snatched the overall lead from Colombo Division on the penultimat­e day of the 28th National Youth Sports Festival which continued at the Vincent Dias Stadium in Badulla yesterday.

Gampaha were in front with a total of 87 points while Colombo were placed second with 86 points followed by Kurunegala (65) in third place.

Meanwhile, Jaffna won the Men’s netball title defeating Moneragala 43-32 in the final with Balakrishn­an Sathinatha­n of Jaffna winning the Most Outstandin­g Player Award.

In addition, Kandy took the Women’s netball title with a 62-33 win over Kalutara in the final. Thilini Wattegeder­a was named as the Most Outstandin­g Player.

Kegalle won the Men’s volleyball tournament defeating Gampaha 3-0 in the final. Kegalle also won the Women’s volleyball crown overcoming Matara 3-0 in the final.

Yesterday, D. M. Y. Dulanjali of Nuwara Eliya set up a new meet record in the Under-20 Girls 400 metres while clocking 50.50 seconds. She erased the previous record of 57.00s held by P. D. N. Madushika of Galle in 2014.

On Friday, Malinda Madushanka of Puttalam establishe­d a new meet record in the Boys Under-20 Shot putt, with an effort of 16.13 metres.

He bettered the previous record of 15.13 metres held by R. Nimalendra in 2012.
