SL arrive late, give 5 Walkovers, finish at the bottom
Sri Lanka (SL) Junior Boys and Girls teams and Cadet Boys and Girls teams failed to live up to their billing as South Asia's No.2, at the 22nd Asian Junior & Cadet Table Tennis Championship 2016 held in Thailand last week.
SL's Junior Boys team lead by Udaya Ranasinghe was ranked 11 out of 14, and the Girls team was ranked 12 out of 12 countries, while the Cadet Boys and Girls teams were both ranked 11 out of 12.
In the Junior Boys Singles SL's main hope Udaya Ranasinghe beat Sirawit of Thailand 3-1, but was beaten by Passara Pattaratom of Thailand 3-1.
SL started the tournament on the wrong foot as they had to give walk-overs on the 1st day to Japan (Cadet Boys), Chinese Taipei (Cadet Girls), DPR Korea (Junior Girls) Chinese Taipei (Junior Boys) and Kazakhstan (Junior Girls) due to their delayed arrival in Thailand.
