A resounding start for the season gives fresh hopes

Galahitiyawa Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Ganemulla known as Kannangara MV earlier was a school that missed the bus in two successive years in 2014 and 15 in the Division III Segment I quarter-finals before reaching their target destination for a berth in the higher division in the Singer Schools cricket tournament. This century old school had failed to produce a national level cricketer due to losing their best players every year. The main reason was every year this school loses the services of their talented ones as they were been fished by well known schools. Led by 5th year coloursman Ravindu Sampath, Galahitiyawa MV started the new season with a resounding victory over Olcott College in their traditional clash last week. Sampath speaking to the Education Times stated that he doesn’t worry much losing two of best players this year and he went on to say that he handles a superb allround side which will join hands to give their alma mater good results as every member of the side is sure to give their best. Coached by M.A. Senaratne an old boy of the school boasts of a strong batting line-up that runs deep down to No. 9 which will be led by elegant stroke maker Isuru Tharaka. The skipper too an excellent allrounder who is sure to lead from the front and every member of the side is in good touch and will make every effort to move to the higher division. A well balanced bowl- ing attack consisting of 2 right arm pacies, a left arm swing bowler supported by a strong spin bowling combination of a right arm leg spinner, a left arm orthodox spinner and three off spinners is sure to give every strong batting line-up a tough time. The coach also said that the keenness shown by the team is sure to go ahead to the higher division.
