Design is no longer a novelty to Sri Lankan businesses; all major industries today employ designers for various services and see ‘design’ as an essential value addition. Within design, the most indemand area is visual communicat­ion design. The reason for this extremely high demand is that visual com designers are needed not only by one business, but almost all businesses. This is because today, all businesses need to push their brand messages out to the consumers through very competitiv­e markets; visual communicat­ion designers are profession­als trained to cater to this exact purpose. Currently, due to the limited number of qualified profession­als available for employment, there is an extremely high demand for graduating visual communicat­ion designers with recognised degrees. Working as a visual communicat­ion designer in Sri Lanka

Here, visual com designers work with businesses to decipher a message about a service or a product into a language that is speaks best to the targeted consumer. Another important use of visual communicat­ion by businesses is for branding and corporate identity design. Brand identity or corporate identity is the manner in which a corporatio­n, firm or business presents themselves to the public, such as customers and investors as well as employees. In terms of design, it is a combinatio­n of colour schemes, symbols, words, etc., that make a visual statement to communicat­e its business philosophy. This usually includes a logo, perhaps a wordmark (a slogan), a brand persona and also values, missions and visions which define what the organisati­on is set out to deliver. Other use of visual communicat­ion design for business includes packaging design, web design, mobile app design, user-experience design, user-interphase design, informatio­n design etc.
