Musaeus U-18 champs at National Rowing Championsh­ip

Musaeus College emerged champions in the Under-18 Girls category at the 31st National Rowing Championsh­ip held at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre in Battaramul­la last weekend. Musaeus won three gold and two silver and bronze medals in the category under the captaincy of Ranuli Wickramasi­nghe.

The team included deputy skipper Ashvini Jayathilak­e, Dinara Fernando, Mayanthi Weerakoon, Thanushi Perera, Randini de Silva, Maedhini de Alwis, Isuri Kumarasing­he, Megara Wijemanne, Binali de Alwis, Senuri de Silva, Niseni Hewamallik­a, Lishadi Mayadunna, Ishanka Hewakurupp­u, Thamadansi Hewage, Dinuri Gunarathne, Netnuli Samaranaya­ke, Miyanshi Dharmarath­na and Nethmini Sirimanne. - 6th year coloursman. Leads the side. A right handed middle order batsman and a high class left arm leg spinner. Enjoyed a very successful last season scoring over 300 runs and claiming nearly 40 wickets. An attacking captain who takes correct decision at the right time. Was a member of the Western Province U17 squad. A fine fielder in the cover region. Deputy captain. 3rd year coloursman who opens batting. A batsman with a solid defence and a delight to watch when in full song. Slow and steadily lends his hand for a sound opening nership. part- A fine right handed middle order batsman and opens bowling with right arm pace deliveries touching 120kms. A good allrounder scored four half centuries and captured over 30 wickets last season. A 4th year coloursman. 2nd year player. Right hand middle order bat and a right arm fast medium change bowler. Cover fielder with an accurate throwing arm.

2nd year. Right hand top order bat who likes to go for his shots very early in the innings. A good close in fielder with quick movements.

Fresher. Right handed lower order bat who uses the long handle. A left arm medium pacie – a main weapon in the bowling attack. Fields in the out with a strong throwing arm.

A stylish right hand middle order bat and an off spin bowler. Fresher.

Fresher. A fine close in fielder. Bats right hand in the middle order and a right arm medium pace bowler with the ability to move both ways.

A stylish left handed opening batsman. Stays at the wicket for a long time in helping the other opener to pile quick runs. Fresher.

Shaun Senil: An allrounder with a bright future. A member of the Under 15 Provincial squad. Bowls right arm medium pace and a sound right handed top order bat. Fresher.

A fresher who is a sound left hand opening bat with strokes all round the wicket. Bowls right arm leg spinners with good variation. Good slip fielder with a sharp eye.

Another right arm leggie who joins the attack in short spells to dislodge in form batsmen. A hard hitting lower order right hand bat. Fresher.
