-

Dr. Achala Pallegedara (BSc. Eng (Hons) (UoP), MEng (UoM), PhD(Japan)) Senior Lecturer / Program Director of PGD in Computer Networks and BSc Software Engineering special degree programme.

Today’s world across the next generation of leaders/ masters walking into lecture theatres, classrooms, libraries, dining and laboratories that are compromising their ability to learn, not enhancing it. As a senior lecturer and course director of NSBM and also as an environment enthusiast since childhood, I’ve witnessed the profound impact of green buildings have on our lives and the innovation they have transferred into the marketplace – from office and retail buildings to government facilities and living homes.

However, none of these markets speak more powerfully to the benefits and potential of green buildings than our new premises NSBM Green University Town. Moreover, in the NSBM’s new green campus, we have a vision: green leaning for everyone who wish to experience the new line of codes of our era. For the same reason, we have been working hardly to reach this milestone of the country in first time in this land and formed the brand new Center for Green Learning at a beautiful green field in Homagama. The new facility will be increasing our efforts to drive change in how we design, construct, teach and operate our degree programs and extra-curricular activities so that all educational facilities can enhance the total student learning experiences. I am pretty happy to see and believe that everyone, from the foundation entering the lecture theatres for the first time to the Masters, student performing research in a lab, should have the ability to learn in green buildings.

In addition to that we are moving towards to obtain the series of green certifications by aligning the policies and processes required, soon after the first stage of development of green university. The NSBM Green University Town will be continuing the work through its Green Campus Campaign, and we are working directly with staff, faculty, students and administrators to expedite the transformation of all facilities into sustainable places to live and learn, work and play.

Last but not least, the new NSBM is here to elevate and accelerate important conversations with rest of the campus stakeholders and provide the tools and resources, such as this Roadmap, to help and make the transformation as being the role model for the first time in this nature in Sri Lanka, toward facilitating/ consulting green learning institutions possible.

You are lucky enough to experience the new style of university life and culture at the Green University Town under high-tech faculties of Engineering, Computing and Management with large varieties of state of the art degree programs including UGC approved and foreign University partners.

We are currently living in the world of a booming and multi-faceted creative economy. Emerging and niche market segments offer high incomes to those who are devised with skills in creative technology. This is the NSBM gain-emphasizing graduate who has autonomy of creating rather than seek jobs, employ rather than be employed. Opening of avenues for involvement are always be in place, encouraging and challenging our undergraduates to develop their ideas to the highest. Students constantly showcase their new ideas and realize them with creativity to professionals and industry leaders.

I hope the all new green campus would take you to the highest of your ladder while being in the friendly eco-system where the experience breeds success for the future.
