In 2016 too, SLDF will feature collaborations between AOD designers and industry leaders such as Coats, Orit, MAS Linea Aqua etc. on its international platform and provide new opportunities for designers to continue working with industry through special projects, internships and even employment.

Inspiration to contribute to Sri Lanka with design

One of the most inspiring segments that SLDF presents to AOD designers is the chance to contribute something fresh to Sri Lanka’s cottage industries and rural artisan communities by super-charging them with contemporary design. Each year, AOD designers are given the opportunity to travel to rural Sri Lanka under the guidance of the AOD faculty, meet artisans, understand their crafts and realise their significance in preserving the country’s heritage: the work that they do by collaborating with these artisans is showcased at SLDF each year and becomes a powerful way to communicate to the business world and industries on how modern design can create outstanding product with traditional practices- a practice that has brought about new business deals, income and opportunities for the artisan communities spread across Sri Lanka. This inspiring opportunity presented at SLDF allows the young designers of AOD to realise their own role in taking Sri Lanka forward to the future by using design as a powerful tool to transform any industry.

A giant platform to propel talent to the international design scene

With SLDF being an event covered by global media, one of the most coveted opportunities presented by SLDF to AOD designers is the international limelight through the interior design exhibition, Reveal graduate design showcase and Mercedes- Benz Fashion Runways. By being part of these influential and internationally covered events, young designers are presented with opportunities to catch the eye of international talent hunters and access the world stage of design.
