Convocation Ceremony Week 2016
The first Convocation Ceremony Week after the opening of the NSBM Green University Town was held as a Convocation Week ceremony on 5th- 7th December 2016 at the University Auditorium under the distinguished pat ronag e of Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Skills Development & Vocational Training. Nearly one thousand four hundred students who have completed the Bachelor’s Degrees, and Postgraduate Diplomas in Business Studies, and Computing, Degree Programmes conducted by National School of Business Management ( NSBM), and in affiliation with University of Plymouth, UK, and University College of Dublin, Ireland, received their degrees.
Several students were honoured as the ‘ Best Performers’ of their respective Degrees and Universities by Hon. Mahinda Samarasinghe, Minister of Skills Development and Vocational Training. Also these graduates were awarded with full and partial scholarships to read for Master’s Degrees at their respective Universities in UK and Ireland.
This event was attended by Dr. E A Weerasinghe, Vice Chancellor, Mr. Chaminda Rathnayake Deputy Vice Chancellor of NSBM Green University Town; and dignitaries from the foreign universities, accordingly, Professor Tahar Kechadi, Professor Damien McLoughlin, and Dr. Paul Ryan participated representing the University College of Dublin, Ireland, and Professor Simon Payne, participated representing the University of Plymouth, UK.
Courses available at NSBM via University Grants Commission approved NSBM Green University Town programmes and programmes delivered with affiliated top- ranked foreign Universities are sophisticated and suave; the opportunities they open up are most rewarding. The programmes make way for a vibrant community of undergraduates and highly successful crowd of graduates, employed in the most interesting places. As it is NSBM’s philosophy to expose its’ undergraduates to the employment world, students graduate with industry exposure at the end of their degrees. It is made a compulsory criterion for the students to do an internship in the final year to enable them to gain industry experience.
NSBM Green University Town is the first of its’ kind in the South Asian region, which functions under the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training. Opening a new chapter in higher education the NSBM Green University Town started its operations on the 26th of October, 2016 at Pitipana Homagama. This state-of theart university is built with an investment of Rs. 10.2 billion, and has the capacity to cater to over 30, 000 students, and is complete with state-of-the-art academic facilities, sports ground, auditorium, open-air theater, gymnasia, swimming pool, students and staff accommodation and much more.
