‘Sanjanani’- Kelaniya University's 4-Day Media Festival
Afestival of Media titled ‘Sanjanani’ organised by the Faculty of Mass Media in collaboration with the Student Society of Mass Media of Kelaniya University, was held from December 6-9, for the 13th consecutive year, at the University premises.
The Sanjanani Media Festival was under the theme, 'A Culture of Communication towards National Reconciliation’ with many special features of Educational and Aesthetic aspects.
The inaugural ceremony took place on December 6 at the University's Social Science auditorium with the Vice Chancellor, Deans, Sectional Heads, Lecturers and Media representatives in attendance.
There also was a model village representing all the Faculties with space allocated for government and private organizations other than the university, was an exceptional feature among many others showcased.
A web radio named ‘Unik Radio’with arrangements to tune into broadcast of radio programmes conducted by the University's academia.
On the opening day, an award ceremony, ‘Sanjanani Harasara Sammana’, in appreciation of the valued services rendered by Senior Journalist S. Piyasena and Rev. Ernest Poruthota for his valued contribution to Cinema, took place along with the screening of short films created by Mass Media

A special workshop was held on December 7, in terms of practical work based on Mass Media, together with a play named ‘ Rasa Sendewa’ performed by professional actors Giriraj Kaushalya, Rodney Warnakula, Kumara Thirimadura, Priyantha Seneviratne and Sarath Kothalawela at the Basketball Courts on the same day.
The finals of the InterUniversity Debating Competition, its awards ceremony, and the launch of several publications by the University's scholars pursuing Special Master Degrees in Mass Media, Public Relations & Media Management, took place on December 8.
The final event of the festival ,‘Mey Ape Hendewa’, on December 9, featured colourful and diverse aspects of theatre, song and dance conducted by the scholars of the Faculty of Mass Media which truly showcased much of their multi-talents.
