KidsIgnite Young Innovator Exhibition 2016
Do you have a child who loves to experiment and build things? Of course every child does! What kid wouldn’t want to see the explosion when you put Mentos in Coke, or to create their very own remote controlled car? Dreams of great creations are never in short supply, especially with children. This is the why KidsIgnite is in existence. KidsIgnite operates as a Makerspace for kids providing with building blocks of innovations to realize their creative dreams.
Started in March this year, today KidsIgnite has a passionate pool of 500 young innovators learning and experimenting on what they want to build and make real. No two kids are the same, some like to use their minds while others like to use their hands. For this reason, KidsIgnite exposes kids to a wide spread of technologies such as Mechanics, Electronics, Electricals, Robotics and more importantly Computer Programming too. Whether they have an aspiring dream to build a drone to fly or to make a whole new computer game, a Makerspace is the perfect environment for kids to innovate.
On December 18th a set of young innovators are set to exhibit the results of their dreams at the KidsIgnite Young Innovator Exhibition 2016. There will be more than 50 inventions presented by kids aged from five years to fifteen years displaying their talents by showing creativity in the field of technology and engineering. This Young Innovator Exhibition provides an excellent opportunity to promising young engineers to share creative ideas among one another and present the same to public.
By looking at the proposals submitted by the students, there will be a vibrant set of innovations presented such as smart robots, helicopters, security systems, power generation, new automobile concepts, computer games and many more. Students have used the knowledge they gathered during the first 6 months of KidsIgnite course in creating these exhibits. They will be pitching their ideas and explain the con- cepts behind to the guest students and parents visiting the exhibition.
In the future world ‘innovations’ will distinguish between a leader and a follower. Countries like Sri Lanka is in a critical junction to choose between being a mere consumer of technology or taking the path to be a global leader in technology creations. It is a crucial necessity that we identify, encourage and nurture the talents of the young minds for the betterment of the country’s future. “I am Dhanushki Fernando and I went to Colombo Visaka Vidyala. I passed A/L well through Bio stream. I had a dream to be a Doctor as all the students are dreaming of it. But according to the Z-score, I could not get selected to the Sri Lankan Medical faculty. My parents wanted to make my dream come true by giving Foreign Higher Education and my mother got to know about a trust place named Russian Education Center (REC). Both my parents had an issue related to my security abroad. Actually I was nervous earlier and had doubts whether I can do my studies in English in a Russian State Medical University. I clarified all the doubts when I enrolled in a Free Introductory Course in Medicine and Russian Language. It was conducted in English Medium. REC provided the maximum service in Sri Lanka and also came to the Moscow Airport in Russia to take our responsibility and they never made us feel alone. The Free Introductory Course in Medicine and Russian Language helped me a lot to start my higher studies in Tver State Medical University in Russia. I Spent 6 years as a Sri Lankan childwith other students who have come from 50 countries and REC never left our hands within the period of time. The ERPM guidance given by REC from 3rd year onwards helped me to get through ERPM exam at the first attempt and got the internship at Mawanella Base Hospital.
