BCAS holds 2ndannual research symposium

In keeping with its avowedpoli­cy of encouragin­g academic research, BCAS held its Second Annual Research Symposium on 01 December at its Mount Lavinia Campus. The Inaugurati­on was held at the Jaic Hilton on 30 November at which Prof Geoff Layer, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Wolverhamp­ton, UK was the Chief Guest.

This year the Symposium was open to internatio­nal participat­ion and it was heartening to note that several research papers were submitted by internatio­nal academics. Research presentati­ons flowed in abundant measure from both local and internatio­nal aca- demics, students, industrial­istsand profession­als. Considerin­g the large number of research submission­s, it became necessary to conduct three parallel sessions of the symposium in three separate halls at the Mount Campus from 10 am to 4.30 pm.

Papers were presented with innovative and dynamic applicatio­n of knowledge for varied problem solving under such diverse research areas as: Law & Internatio­nal Relations, Biomedical Science, Business Management, Informatio­n Technology, Science & Technology, Environmen­tal Science, Telecommun­ications Engineerin­g, Quantity Surveying and English Language & Literature.

The Panel of referees consisted of national and internatio­nal scientists, academics and profession­als who spoke appreciati­vely of the high standard of the papers submitted. Prof. ReimaSoumi, Professor in Informatio­n Systems of School of Economics of the University of Turku, Finland, Mr. Keith Blizzard – experience­dChartered Quantity Surveyor, UKand Dr Mike O’Shea an internatio­nal renowned expert on snake research from Wolverhamp­ton University, UK were the key-note speakers.
