‘Window of Hope’ Project

-

As the festive season is around the corner, the Charity Club decided that Christmas would come early this year. The Charity Club launched it’s ‘Window of Hope’ project to primarily focus on extending its support for education to underprivileged students in Poyston, Dickoya. ‘One child, one teacher, one book, one pen can change the world.’ We the Charity Club distributed a range of practical educational tools per student. As well as a printer and a cartridge packet. These packages included the following: pencils, pens, a ruler, an eraser, a colored pencil pack, exercise books, drawing books and a pair of socks.

The school graced us with a remarkable welcome, where the board and the members of the club were given flowers to the sound of students clapping and cheering. We were then given the opportunity to spend time with the students until the opening ceremony commenced. We watched the students do various dance items and perform a beautiful drama. Afterwards, the opening ceremony commenced with the lighting of the oil lamp, where the president of the Charity Club, Nirvana Saleh was asked to begin lighting along with a representative from the student body, Laaiqah Ruzaick. The event began with an open- ing dance and a welcome speech where the young student stated that ‘the key to success rest in people like you, who embodies the spirit of greatness’. In addition to this, the President of the Charity Club thanked each of her board members: Saumya Eldeniya, Teshani Datuanarachchi, Afshin Saleh, Ashara Jayamane, Michael Edirimanasinghe and Binuri Gamhewage for their immense support. She especially thanked all those who donated various educational tools to make this contribution a success.

The principal of the school, Mr. S Jesduas went on to thank the students of the American National College for their selflessness in coming forward to help pave the way for their students to achieve a greater education. The event ended with our very own Board Member, Michael Ediriminasinghe singing a Tamil song. The educational tools were then distributed by all the students who represented ANC in the event.
