Award winning IIT graduate making great strides in the IT sector
This is the first point to remember. When there are a host of recipients, the general feeling is that ‘I’m not that necessary as a reader. Someone else will respond!’ An email written directly to the recipient is more likely to get a response.
What is the point of the email? What do you want to communicate through the email? Try to limit the email to one main idea. If there are multiple pieces of information, say that up front too. It might be helpful to bold or underline the main ideas, (but don’t use weird colors or oversized font.)
Highlight the most pertinent facts you want to convey, dates or locations, especially if the email is very long. If you don’t capture the attention of the reader soon, you probably will lose it!
People can often read lists easier than paragraphs when dissecting detailed information. The points you want to make will seem more streamlined and easier to follow if you number them, use bullet points or highlight them in some way.

IIT graduates have reached the pinnacle of excellence in their respective careers mainly due to the institute focusing on providing necessary industry exposure and producing allround students who are able to meet the challenges of the corporate world soon after graduation.
One such student who is currently making strides in the IT sector is Krishnakripa Jayakumar who graduated from IIT in 2015 with a First Class honors. She is a past pupil of Belvoir College International and is currently employed as a Software Engineer at 99X Technology.
Krishnakripa bagged the University of Westminster Award for best all round performance for the Software Engineering batch 2015, was part of the team which won the World Citizenship category award at Microsoft Imagine Cup and has also won an NBQSA Merit award.
In a candid interview, Krishnakripa spoke of her journey at IIT and how the institute provided a platform for her to become a well-rounded personality in many aspects.
Following are excerpts of the interview with Krishnakripa;
Choosing the most suitable higher education institute for one’s undergraduate degree can be challenging. What made you choose IIT for your higher education?
One of the most important decisions I had to make when finding a suitable higher education institute was an institute which was highly reputed and one which is aligned with my vision. Before joining IIT, I had visited many other IT institutes to personally pick out the better choice. I was looking for an institute which was highly recognized in the software industry and has produced many fine software professionals in the past. With recommendations I received from relatives and friends, I decided that IIT would be the best place to begin my journey.
Could you describe your experience while studying at IIT?
IIT Campus gave me a platform to become a well-rounded personality in many aspects. I developed my teamwork, soft skills, technical skills and leadership skills by taking part in IIT’s annual Tech exhibitions and winning places for the projects showcased. I also took part at the annual talent show –Stagecraft, which was organized by the Students Union. At Stagecraft I had the opportunity to showcase my talents in singing and dancing. Being a part of organizing these events gave me a whole new way of building up on these skills. I was also involved in the Rotaract Club where I was mostly focused on community service development and other activities like the Choir.
What type of support did you receive by the academics at IIT?
The lecturers at IIT were very helpful towards us. They taught us exactly what we need in order to survive in the industry. Whenever we had issues or any challenges, our lecturers were very helpful and we would always talk to them when we need help. The software industry is a very dynamic field where technologies keep changing ever so fast. IIT not only focused on theory but made it a point to provide practical knowledge which would be very useful when we enter the industry or start the final year.
What were your most significant achievements?
One of the most significant achievements would be when I received the University of Westminster Award for best all round performance for the Software Engineering batch of 2015. It is because of 4 years of grooming I received from IIT and the experiences I received while being a student at the institute, I believe contributed towards me getting this award. I was also fortunate enough to take part in Microsoft Imagine Cup last year where the team I was part of was adjudged National winners in the World Citizenship Category. NBQSA (National Best Quality Software Awards) is another prestigious competition where my final year project received a merit award. This was a memorable win for me as my project was picked from about hundreds of student projects in the country.
How did the internship offered by IIT help you?
My first take at becoming a professional was when I interned at 99X Technology during my placement year. I got a chance to experience firsthand how the industry felt like. I worked on several projects ranging from customer projects, internal projects and projects which participated and won awards at NBQSA. I was also exposed to many other aspects of professionalism where I involved myself in CSR, Quiz, University relationship programmes which helped build my career immensely. Personally I feel that IIT’s internship period is a good opportunity for the students to gain necessary industry exposure as it involves working in an industry for one year. This is enough time for a newbie to understand the exact working structure of an organization and mingle with the company culture.
Could describe the type of work you are currently engaged in?
I am proud to say that I am currently working as a Software Engineer in the same place as I interned which is 99X Technology. I am currently involved in a very interesting Norwegian based project. Apart from the customer project, I am involved in organizing events for the company and I am also in charge of overlooking the Internship Programme for 99X Technology.
What is your advice for someone seeking higher education?
Undergraduate life is the most crucial time periods that will define your career and when you are done with it, you will realize it was worth it. Perseverance, will power and hard work will definitely take you to your goal. IIT has taught me many important lessons in my life and for that I’m ever grateful. It gives you an exposure to the software industry career from an earlier stage and grooms you to excel in the workplace. For me, it has forced me to become a professional and has landed me the exact life I was looking forward to before I joined IIT.
What are your future plans?
I intend to progress higher in my career and help contribute my level best to the IT industry and its dynamic ecosystem. I am also planning of doing my Masters in the future.
