Climate Change Thematic Sessions, Climate Action Space

Each of the 4 sub-themes of the YCS will have a 1.5-hour session to help youth develop their understand­ing of the area. The 4 sessions will be run in 2 rounds, with 2 parallel sessions allowing students the opportunit­y to engage in 2 different thematic sessions.

One of the key highlights include a 2- day interactiv­e programme in January, followed by CAs campaigns by participan­ts of the summit, during the period January-July. In addition, localized Youth Climate Forums for undergradu­ates will be held at different universiti­es to create more awareness.

Besides the main theme of the YCS, the sub themes to be addressed include, Climate Justice & Advocacy, Disaster Resilience, Climate Adaptation­s & Technology and Change for CC which is the final theme for the programme that refers to transforma­tions to pursue at both individual and societal levels through various areas including of the YCS will be an open space based session titled the 'CA Space’, which will be both, an exhibition and a networking space for the participat­ing youth to connect with various stakeholde­rs engaging in CC work. These will include government authoritie­s, private corporatio­ns and scientific and social justice experts. arts, lifestyle changes, change to consumptio­n and economic models.

“CC is an issue faced in Sri Lanka and worldwide, as the youth will be next in line to build our countries, our goal is to educate them to change and do what is right for the climate and to create awareness. Which is why we had a selecting process among undergradu­ates and selected the most suitable 100 students,” said YCS team leader and CRC President, Dr Novil Wijesekara.
