Registrations now open for Professional Certified Finance & Management Accountant Programme in the Hospitality Industry

The Professional Certified Finance & Management Accountant Programme jointly conducted by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA) and the Sri Lanka Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management (SLITHM) launched in December 2016 will now accept applications from candidates to commence the Foundation & Certificate Course in early February and applications will close on 20th January 2017.

Today, the business volume of tourism equals or even surpasses that of oil exports, food products or automobiles. Tourism has become one of the major players in international commerce, and represents at the same time one of the main income sources for many developing countries. Sri Lanka, similarly, is experiencing significant growth in tourist arrivals and the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority’s projections reveal that the tourist arrivals to the country will exceed 4.0Mn by 2020.

The Hospitality industry needs its accounting and finance community – a key component of the human resource asset of the industry to brace itself to support this major expansion.

CMA and SLITHM have joined hands to launch this programme – the Certified Hospitality Finance and Management Accountancy professional qualification for the first ever time and thereby to provide an opportunity for the finance teams in the hospitality industry to acquire a relevant professional qualification enabling them to enhance their skills and knowledge and thereby improve significantly their contribution to support the growth in the industry.

Program Details

6 6 12 12 With 3 years’ work experience in the Hospitality industry as per Practical Training Guide With minimum 5 Years Senior Executive experience the Finance and Management Accounting field will be professionalized and expanded in the hospitality industry.

Through the conduct of this professional qualification CHFMA, all those currently employed in the hospitality industry at different levels in the financial accounting and management accounting sector will be provided the opportunity to obtain a professional qualification specializing in the Hospitality Industry where they will be able to develop the knowledge and skills of those in the accounting and allied fields. This will help the Hospitality industry in its rapid growth and development to build a sustainable pool of qualified accountants, audit and finance staff required for the industry.

The CHFMA programme will be conducted at the SLITHM premises in Colombo, Kandy and Galle. The examinations will also be conducted in these premises. Foundation Certificate in Accounting Certificate in Hospitality Finance and Management Accounting Diploma in Hospitality Finance and Management Accounting Certified Hospitality Finance and Management Accountant (CHFMA) Associate of CHFMA (ACHFMA Designation) Fellow of CHFMA FCHFMA Designation Lectures will be conducted on Sundays. CHFMA membership requires completion of CHFMA examinations and a threeyear practical experience requirement as per the Practical Training guide, in the hospitality industry, Viva Voce. Those successful will be identified as members who are qualified Professional Accountants in the Hospitality Industry with the designations “ACHFMA” for Associates and those with a minimum of 5 years senior executive experience after obtaining ACHFMA to be designated “FCHFMA” for Fellows showing their commitment to high ethical standards, professional values, and lifelong learning or continuing professional development.
