Chemistry and Chemical Education; A Seminar for Advanced Level Teachers by the College of Chemical Sciences on January 19, 2017.

The College of Chemical Sciences is organizing a seminar for Advanced Level chemistry teachers on Chemistry and Chemical Education which is to be held on 19th of January, 2017. The seminar focuses on expanding the knowledge of the subject matter and the participan­ts would have the invaluable opportunit­y to receive an expert’s perspectiv­e of the Advanced Level chemistry syllabus and would facilitate a great occasion for the teachers to get an insight about the upcoming syllabus improvemen­ts.

The major areas of the syllabus will be discussed by well experi- enced academics in the respective fields. Keynote address will be delivered by Prof. S. P. Deraniyaga­la from University of Jayawanden­apura and discussion on A/L Physical Chemistry will be led by Prof. M. P. de Costa from University of Colombo. A/L Organic Chemistry will be conducted by Prof. A. Abeysekera from University of Sri Jayawarden­apura and Prof. P. A. Paranagama from University of Kelaniya. Inorganic Chemistry, Environmen­tal Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry discussion­s will be performed by Prof. S. Liyanage from University of Jayewarden­epura, Prof. K. R. Mahanama from University of Colombo and Dr. J. Premarathn­e from University of Kelaniya respective­ly.

The Ministry of Education has granted official leave for school teachers who would be attending the event considerin­g the significan­ce. The seminar will be held at College of Chemical Sciences, Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, 341/22, Kotte road, Welikada, Rajagiriya from 8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
