Nipun another ‘ton’ for St. Joseph's

Nipun Sumanasing­he continued his batting form when he made an unbeaten 120 that comprised 17 boundaries. He along with Cameron Duruge who hit a 70 put on a valuable partnershi­p of 187 runs for the second to go into the lunch break on day two on 244 for 3 against Trinity in their Under 19 inter- school cricket encounter played at Darley Road.

This was in reply to Trinity’s score of 264 which came on the back of half tons from Shanogeeth Shanmugana­than and Trevon Percival.

Wesley resuming from their overnight score of 24 for 1 helped by half tons from Thilina Perera and Jason de Silva were 158 for 5 when play stopped for lunch on the second day against S. Thomas’ in the match played at Mt. Lavinia.

The opening day’s play saw an unbeaten 97 by Romesh Nallaperum­a and a half ton by Dinura Gunawarden­a enabled S. Thomas’ taking first lease of the wicket making a formidable score of 306

Half tons by Kavindu Gimhana and Sahan Suraweera saw Ananda ending the morning session of play in a strong position against Royal in the match played at Ananda Mawatha.

Ananda in reply to Royals 221 resuming from their overnight score of 83 for 0 were 209 for 4 at the lunch break.

DSS has already taken a first inning lead over St Aloysius Galle when play stopped for lunch on the second day in the match played at Pannipitiy­a. DSS after making a score of 306 bowled out St Aloysius continuing from their overnight score of 15 for 0 for 169.

Exchanges were even in the match between St Peter’s and Prince of Wales in the match played at Bambalapit­iya while Bandaranay­ake MV Gampaha and St Patrick’s Jaffna were on top against fancied De Mazenod at Kandana and Ibbagamuwa Central at Jaffna. Pix by Amila Gamage
