Fernando Grand Prix 2017 flags off on Tuesday (24)

The Sri Lanka Golf Union Amateur Golf Calendar for 2017, flags off on Tuesday, with the Pin Fernando Grand Prix, powered by CAT Solar, on behalf of United Tractor & Equipment Pvt Ltd.

The CAT Solar Pin Fernando Grand Prix, played over 4 stroke play rounds is a significan­t SLGU calendar event, since these rounds and all Grand Prix Rounds are submitted for the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) monitored by R&A, administer­ed under Asia Pacific Golf Confederat­ion (APGC).

The developmen­t and improvemen­t of the standard of Amateur Golfers in Sri Lanka owes their results to the ongoing conduct of the Grand Prix Ranking events. The Sri Lanka Golf Union, persistent­ly conducting monthly Ranking Rounds with the assistance of Sponsors is the responsibi­lity and commitment to ensure constant progress of the Lankan golfing prospects.

The 2017, Pin Fernando Grand Prix (PFGP) series introduces a new dimension by including Juniors also to participat­e whilst encouragin­g more member Golfers to participat­e.

With a view to improve and give an opportunit­y to Ladies too to play for World Ranking, Ladies will also participat­e in the monthly events. The Grand Prix for Amateur Men will have no handicap limit but a cut- off after two Rounds will ensure competitiv­e performanc­e for the Golfers sharpening their skills raising the bar of the new crop of Amateurs vying for places in the National team.

The 2017 Grand Prix edition will have over 70 players Teeing off, comprising the cream of the Amateur Golfers from the Royal Colombo Golf Club, Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, VGCR, and the defense service representa­tives from the Air Force, Navy and Army.

The rapid improvemen­t among the representa­tives from the forces is a very encouragin­g factor for the future success of Amateur Golf in Sri Lanka.

Tuesday, 24th– 27th January will be the inaugural phase of the CAT Solar Pin Fernando Grand Prix 2017, played at the Royal Colombo Golf Club Ridgeways and the February and March events are scheduled to be worked off in Victoria Golf and Country Resort, Digana and Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Course respective­ly, during the last week of each respective month.

The Sponsorshi­p agreement between United Tractor & Equipment on behalf of CAT Solar and the Sri Lanka Golf Union was signed on Thursday, 19th January 2017 at the RCGC.

The Awards Ceremony for the inaugural event will be held after the 4th and final Round on Friday 27th January 2017, at the RCGC.
