Joins hands with Victoria University Australia to launch new Degrees in Management and IT

Turning a new page in Sri Lankan higher education, the NSBM Green University Town commenced its programmes in late 2016. Adding to the remarkable change and innovative outlook it has catered to, the NSBM has the Australian Degree programmes on board now as well. There is a high demand for Australian degree programs all over the world. In order to fulfil the requirements of international education within the Sri Lankan context, the National School of Business Management (NSBM) has taken another giant initiative in collaboration with the Victoria University in Australia, to launch degree programs in two major disciplines, Business Management and Information Technology. National School of Business Management is one of the leading education institutes in Sri Lanka, who has made a noticable change in the Sri Lankan higher education history, by introducing the concept of sustainability within the education system. The NSBM Green University Town is located in Pitipana, Homagama, which facilitates 30,000 students at once and is renowned as the first ever green university in South Asia, which comprises of State-of-the-art facilities compatible to create an international educational environment for the students, which confirms greatness in every step. Apart from the academic excellence, NSBM is facilitating the students with several other activities such as sports and recreational. Degree programs are offered under three main faculties, Business, Computing and Engineering. Within these three faculties the university maintains a well-diversified education portfolio of different disciplines in Business Management, Information Technology and Engineering. Enriching the educational portfolio, NSBM has collaborated with Victoria University in Australia, to offer degrees in two main disciplines, Business Management and Information Technology in Sri Lanka.

From March 2017 onwards National School of Business Management (NSBM) and VU will jointly offer the VU Bachelor of Business: Banking and Finance & Financial Risk Management and Bachelor of Information Technology: Web and Mobile Application Development.

The Bachelor of Business degree program mainly focuses in the field of finance, which specifically address the area of Banking and Finance and the Financial Risk Management, which are very much unique and potential in the industry placements. These two specialisations consist with highly specialised and contemporary set of modules in the field Banking and Risk Management, in order to empower the students with updated knowledge and competencies about the practical proceedings of the finance industry both locally and internationally. This will be an extraordinary academic qualification for the students, who are with the interest to address the emerging demand of the finance sec- tor worldwide. The Bachelor of Business program is designed as a dual major program, where both specialities are provided with theory and practical knowledge on Banking as well as Risk Management. This will be an added advantage for the students in both specialisations, in order to be stabilised in the field of finance through collaborative knowledge in Banking and Risk Management.

In the field of Software Engineering there is a high demand for the Web & Mobile application developers. Most of the Software developed and deployed at present are either a web based or mobile application. The NSBM understood that emerging trend and introduced the Bachelor of Information Technology major in Web and Mobile Application Development degree program with the partnership of Victoria University- Melbourne, Australia. This unique program prepares students for a career in the high-demand field of web and mobile application development.

This subject major provides students with advanced knowledge and skills in web and mobile application development through an integrated set of units in web and mobile application development. It builds on the Bachelor of IT foundations including programming, database systems and ICT management. Students will study object oriented programming, software engineering, web programming, mobile app programming, cloud app programming and database systems. Furthermore, they will apply practical and contemporary technologies to develop solutions for real world problems in their final year projects.

A student who joins with NSBM is completing 2 years of study under the Business Management / Information Technology Specialisation, who will be then directed to the completion of the specialisation in 3rd and the 4th year at NSBM Sri Lanka which is a great cost saver to parents. Further, NSBM, jointly with Victoria University, opens the opportunity to the students to directly join to the relevant degree specialisations of VU, who have successfully completed several related Diploma Programs in different institutes.

The speciality of this program compared with the other locally delivered foreign degree program is, Victoria University closely monitors the entire processes of making the student a competent and an employable graduate. Once the student completes the degree program at NSBM s/he will be in par with VU onshore graduate competency and skills. The module contents of the degree program will be collaboratively delivered by well qualified and experienced local as well as international faculty, which is closely scheduled and monitored by VU. Further, module evaluation, student affairs etc will also be subjected to the supervision of a panel appointed by Victoria University.

The Green campus is complete with modern lecture halls, independent study areas and computer labs. Furthermore the creative facet of the students is enhanced by the availability of a state-of-the-art auditorium, an open air theater and the sports skills, by the indoor stadium, fullyfledged gymnasia and the playground.
