Long Service & Vice-Chancellor’s Awards Ceremony-2016 of Kelaniya University

-

Long Service Awards and the Vice-Chancellor’s (VC) Awards Ceremony-2016 of Kelaniya University, in appreciation of the services rendered by the academic and non-academic staff members, was conducted at the university premises last week.

“The VC’s Awards Ceremony has been a calendar event of the Kelaniya University since 2007, to render due recognition to the dedication and commitment of the academic and the non-academic staff members.

“I have personally observed that winning an award is a defining moment for an employee, as it gives him/her pride and happiness, as the hard work and commitment is recognized as well as rewarded in the presence of the entire staff, which will further motivate them, as well as the other staff members to further extend their services in the future. This would undoubted- ly contribute towards taking the university a step further,” said Kelaniya University VC, Senior Prof Sunanda Madduma Bandara.

“It is indeed my belief that staff members exert unstintingly to their utmost, which stands out from the rest. They deserve to be rewarded both financially and on non-financial terms. However, the VC’s Awards are non-financial,” he said.

This year, the Awards Ceremony expanded to include the academic and the non-academic staff members of the three affiliated institutes namely, the Postgraduate Institute of Archaeology, Postgraduate Institute of Pali & Buddhist Studies and the Gampaha Wickramarachchi Ayurveda Institute, whereas, in previous years, a separate ceremony was held for the affiliated institutes.

"In contrast to applications being called around April previously, followed by a delayed academic year, this procedure will ensure an expeditious enrollment of the students," explained Prof de Silva.

He said that, though the GCE (Advanced Level) re-correction process is continuing, students could go ahead and apply and, in the event of a change in their results, they could re-apply, in accordance with their new results.

"We assure them they will not face any discrimination and will be able to re-apply to the desired Faculty, in accordance with their final results," he said.

"We request applicants to carefully read the guide provided, before filling their application, as they may be disqualified due to an error in filling their form," he said.
