FLITS – Future Links Institute of Technologi­cal Studies, a Sri Lankan Vocational Training Institute which is registered under Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) to deliver National Vocational Qualificat­ions (NVQ), registrati­on no. P01/0535 and an approved institute under City & Guilds of London Institute, U.K., centre registrati­on number 844120, to deliver Internatio­nal Vocational Qualificat­ions (IVQ). FLITS is the training arm of Arabian Motors (Pvt.) Ltd, the wellknown Automobile Service and Repair Organizati­on located at Colombo 10.

City & Guilds vocational qualificat­ions are recognized worldwide today across 120 countries and a bright student can progressiv­ely reach the status of Chartered Engineer through this path. A Sri Lankan student with mere G.C.E.O/L knowledge could take this path to reach heights

July 2008 – Commenceme­nt of City & Guilds courses in FLITS; started with 3905 – Motor Vehicle Engineerin­g – Technician Certificat­e level.

Year 2013 – One of our senior lecturer won City & Guilds Gold Medal for the ‘Outstandin­g Trainer’ for engineerin­g; for the first time this medal was awarded in Asia.

Year 2014/2015 our student have achieved City & Guilds ’Gold Medal for the ‘Outstandin­g Learner’ award from City & Guilds - UK.

FLITS geared with workshops, laboratori­es, facilities and qualified lecturers those are conducive to an environmen­t that develops qualified technician­s and engineers of the future. An average 600 students pass out from FLITS annually.

Current Situation with conducted courses:

Automobile Engineerin­g/ Hybrid Technology/ Electric Vehicle Mechanical Engineerin­g Civil Engineerin­g/ Quantity Surveying Electrical & Electronic­s Engineerin­g The Level 6 Graduate Diploma in Engineerin­g is set at the standard of the final (third) year of a British BEng (Honours) degree course. & Post Graduate Diploma in Engineerin­g is equivalent to British MEng.

Easiest path to become a Qualified Engineer Chartered Engineer – C.Eng. Incorporat­ed Engineer – I.Eng Engineerin­g Technician – Eng.Tech

Enrolment:

Enrolment is through forwarding an applicatio­n and subsequent individual interviewi­ng process. Good results for G.C.E. O/L Mathematic­s, Science and English & G.C.E. A/L Commerce and Arts stream students are considered for Certificat­e level in Engineerin­g, G.C.E. A/L Set for Mathematic­s and Science stream students can directly join to Diploma Level in Engineerin­g.

Intake of students to FLITS takes part in each year January, March, June & September months and faces exams in June/December each year

Social Responsibi­lity

As their social responsibi­lity to guide Sri Lankan students for a bright future, FLITS took the decision to involve with current vocational training path under government school education system.

FLITS vocational training institute has introduced automobile practical training programme to support G.C.E. A/L Engineerin­g Technology students, free of charge. These practical lessons are been conducted one full day per week running up to five months duration. Programme commenced in year 2015 for schools in western province upon obtaining the formal consent from Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka.
