Did you know, that you are made of atoms, from the top of your head to the bottom of your toes? Did you know, that everything around you and the whole universe is made of atoms? From the food you eat to the cosmetics and medicine you use and even the smartphone you are holding in your hand right now is made of billions and billions of tiny atoms which are invisible to the human eye! So guess what? If we are made of atoms, then a scientist studying atoms is actually a group of atoms studying themselves! Has this information profoundly shocked you yet or are you still pondering on how it could be so? The simple explanation to all this is Chemistry.

To some the study of chemistry is a passion. To others it could be said to be a quest; a continuous quest journeyed from the ancient times to now and which will carry on to the impending future to discover the wonders of chemistry which in turn will bring us closer to the truth behind the universe. But mutually, to all of us chemistry is life. When we see chemistry we see life and when we see life we see chemistry. The world of chemistry is so vast that it is involved in almost each and every dayto-day activity of our lives and yet it tends to go unnoticed. To those who are keen on discovering the wonders of chemistry and learning more about its involvement in our lives, the exhibition “CHEMEX” is an amazing opportunity to attend in order to discover more astounding information and facts about our world which constantly revolves around chemistry.

“CHEMEX-4”, organized by the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon which is the only professional body of Sri Lankan chemists will be held from 26th – 28th January 2017 at the Sri Lanka Exhibition & Convention Centre (SLECC). “CHEMEX-4” is preceded by “CHEMEX-1” which was held at BMICH in 2011 as part of the UN International Year of Chemistry. “CHEMEX-2” and “CHEMEX-3” were held at the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon in 2012 and 2014 respectively. This mega educational exhibition and trade fair with the theme “Role of Chemists for a Better Tomorrow” will be held to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Institute. It will be the outcome of the collaborative effort of the members of the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon along with the support of lecturers, alumni and undergraduates of the College of Chemical Sciences.

The exhibition will comprise of over 100 stalls arranged by the industrial sector, universities and the students of the College of Chemical Sciences which will showcase many different areas in chemistry and cater not only to A Level students and university undergraduates but also to the entire Sri Lankan community to discern how chemistry is involved in our day-to-day lives. The three day event will also consist of keynote addresses and guest speeches by renowned chemists and industrialists in Sri Lanka, Advanced Level seminars, debates and various entertainment items which will without a doubt enhance your interest about the chemical world.
