AOD opens its doors to all after O/L students with BIG ideas
AOD’s Design Foundation Taster Day to be held on Saturwday, 28th January 9am to 3pm giving creative young minds with big ideas, an opportunity for a real-time exploration of ‘design’- a serious career path that celebrates their unique abilities. After O/L students and parents are invited to visit AOD on the day, to get a comprehensive insight into modern, stable and lucrative design careers available today.
After O/L’s period is a crucial time when students make a decision on their higher education pathways. Deciding on a future pathway out of the several hundred opportunities available out there now, is a big decision for a young person. One of the most important considerations to take in this lifechanging decision is one’s own talents and strengths; because choosing a pathway that is well in line with your capabilities means you will have a clear advantage to succeed in it. This is why AOD encourages creatively talented students with big ideas to explore design career paths that celebrate their unique abilities, before making the big decision. With the most powerful industries in Sri Lanka and the rest of the world embracing design among the most essential components for the success of any kind of business in the twenty-first century, designers are now known as the the newest ‘money-makers’ for business. This has elevated ‘design’ to get recognised among the most sought-after career paths offering stable jobs, financial security and personal satisfaction.
To shed light on design careers, the opportunities that they present and the pathways to get there, AOD is hosting ‘Design Foundation Taster Day’. The event presents an exciting line-up of free events to educate students on the design careers and opportunities available in Sri Lanka as well as abroad. This includes design exhibitions, video screenings, career guidance and workshops by international design professionals. All workshops have been designed to instil creative curiosity and autonomous design learning to allow students to decide whether ‘design’ is the right pathway for their future. Some of these free workshops include those allowing one to test their skills in making own designer stationary case or finding out the basics of simple animation at the GIF animation studio. Other workshops will take students through the fundamentals of interior design with a DIY lighting workshop while basics in photography will be shared at the 101 photography set. All events are designed not only to provide information, but also to give a firsthand experience of studying and working as a designer.
After taking part in these workshops where students can decide whether their future lies in design, they also have the opportunity to meet AOD’s principal and design foundation international faculty, with their parents to discuss what the pathway entails, programme details and the outcomes of studying it. AOD Design Foundation is an introductory pathway leading to complete design degrees and ultimately, successful careers in design.
AOD being one of the most reliable educators for design in Sri Lanka, working in partnership with the government and the biggest industries in the country such as apparel, hospitality, tourism etc., the campus is uniquely positioned to share reliable information on the type of qualifications and skills needed for a successful design career. Therefore AOD’s Design Foundation Taster Day 2017 creates an ideal opportunity for After O/L’s students as well as parents to meet AOD international faculty, career counsellors and recruitment officers to pose questions and get the answers that they need.
If you’re interested in design and wish to find your success through a creative career, AOD gives you a sure pathway to get there; AOD Design Foundation Taster Day presents a unique opportunity to freely walk into the campus and get first-hand experience on design education and careers.
