Mahanama on first innings against St. Benedict’s

Mahanama College continued their domination against St Benedict’s and they succeeded in taking the first inning lead in their Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter played at Kotahena.

The second day’s play saw St Benedict’s resuming from their overnight score of 53 for 4 being made to struggle for their runs before Chamindu Wijesinghe who cracked a half ton that helped them to recover. Bens scored 159 runs in their first innings.

The opening day’s play saw Mahanama taking first lease of the wicket making 227 runs. They were guided by a half ton from Malindu Maduranga and were also supported by useful knocks from Heshan Hettiarach­chi and Niduka Welikala.

A match bag of 10 for 51 by right arm pacie Ramesh Madusanka paved the way for Revatha MMV Balapitiya record a convincing ten wicket win against St Mary’s Chilaw in their match concluded at Balapitiya yesterday.

Ramesh who ended with figures of 5 for 36 in the first inning, ended with another top haul of 5 for 15 to bundle out St Mary’s batting the second time with for a low score of 72 runs which left Revatha MMV a simple run chase of four runs which they needed just three balls.

Rajasinghe MMV Hanwella coasted to an easy innings and 41 runs win over Sir John Kotalawala MMV Kurunegala in the match which ended at Hanwella yesterday.

The second day’s proceeding­s saw Rajasinghe MMV in reply to their opponents score of 116 going on to make 209.

Sir John Kotalawala MMV batting the second time with the task of erasing a deficit of 93 runs failed to achieve it as they succumbed to the bowling trio Shavinda de Silva, Ranaweera Jayawarden­a and Udesh Kavinda who together shared nine wickets for a meager 52 runs.
