SAITM - Sri Lanka’s Multi Faculty Green Campus that produces well educated Graduates with a Character

Located in Malabe, South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) is an institution of advance learning that commenced its programmes of activities in 2009 and which provides opportunities for tertiary level education in five faculties comprising of Management and Finance, Medicine, Engineering, and ICT and Media including the recently established Faculty of Allied Health and Behavioural Sciences. SAITM currently has nearly 1,000 students reading for their Bachelor’s degrees in Medicine, Engineering, ICT and Management. SAITM is the only Non state Higher Education Institute with multy faculties offering degrees ranging from Medicine to programs in Computing.

Faculty of Medicine

SAITM is also the first and only Sri Lankan Non-State Higher Education Institute which is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Ministry of Higher Education of Sri Lanka to award MBBS Degree. (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) SAITM was granted degree awarding status for MBBS degree as published in gazette notifications No. 1721/19 dated August 30, 2011 and by Government Gazette No. 1829/36 dated September 26, 2013 under Universities Act of 1978. Last week on January 31 2017, in the landmark decision made in Court of Appeal directed that provisional registration be allowed for SAITM MBBS graduates.

SAITM is well equipped with required resources in all aspects to provide a world-class Medical Degree program in Sri Lanka. Clinical training for the medical students is provided at the Dr. Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital (NFTH) which was established in 2013 and other private hospitals. The Units in the hospital include Professorial and Non professorial units in Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, and all sub specialty units such as Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Radiology, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Neurology, Dermatology etc that are necessary for clinical training. Kaduwela MoH and Awissawella Base Hospital provide clinical training for Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine and Psychiatry respectively. The academic panel is one of the best comprising of 20 Professors, 74 Senior Lecturers and 54 Lecturers and is on par with State Medical Faculties as per Sri Lanka University Statistics 2015 published by the UGC.

Faculty of Engineering

Established on the 1st of July 2009, SAITM faculty of Engineering is one of the pioneering and the leading nonstate sector school of engineering in Sri Lanka offering 4 year full time Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Civil Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering. Those who complete the undergraduate studies at SAITM, have the opportunity of reading for a Masters Degree at the prestigious Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Thailand due to the collaborations SAITM has with AIT .The faculty also exclusively conducts 2 + 2 Engineering programmes in collaboration with RMIT Australia,Vietnam Campus. RMIT is an award winning Australian University and is ranked among the Top 15 Universities in Australia. Equipped with the state of the art physical resources, with international standard engineering and computer laboratories, well stocked library and modern lecture halls, the faculty can boast of highly qualified top notch team of full time academics and researchers and a selection of the best senior lecturers from state universities in Sri Lanka and abroad as visiting fac- ulty. The faculty is also proud of its graduates numbering over 400 who are all employed in various positions in the Engineering industry locally and abroad. The faculty boasts of 100% employability and at least 40 % of graduates are currently engaged in postgraduate studies.

Faculty of Management and Finance

SAITM’s management and Finance is one of the most dynamic faculties in Sri Lanka with its co and extracurricular programmes. Degree Programmes in BSc (Hons) in Accountancy, BSc (Hons) in Financial Management, and BSc (Hons) in International Business Management are currently available in affiliation with Yangtze University, China.The Edexcel-Pearson BTec-5 HND Programmes includes HNDs in Accounting, Management, Marketing or HR Management. The SAITM Foundation Programme leads to the enrolment for Yangtze University Degree programmes.

Faculty of ICT & Media

Interactive Media is a rapidly changing and fast growing field of study and catering to this high demand, the programmes offered by the Faculty of ICT and Media at SAITM has an innovative and curriculum that is constantly adapted to the changing times. The programme also has a strong focus in industry partnerships and the faculty has partnered with leading industry players in computing, interactive media as well as accounting and finance, to provide students with high quality industry experience as well as exposure to the real working environment. With state-of-the art 24-inch apple i-Macs, well-equipped laboratory spaces, experienced faculty and thorough training, SAITM provides the students with the right learning environment. The pro- gramme content include Graphic Designing, Film & Video Production, Web Development 2D & 3D Animation. The faculty also offers Edexcel HND in Computing with Interactive Media and SAITM Diploma in Computing with Interactive Media.

Faculty of Allied Health and Behavioural Sciences

SAITM’s Faculty of Allied Health and Behavioural Sciences envision being a front runner in programs for students pursuing careers in Allied Health and Behavioural Sciences. The faculty is in the process of introducing three bachelor’s degree programmes; Bachelor of Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Currently the Faculty offers two year Higher Diploma in Medical and Health Product Management for students who are interested in acquiring knowledge and skills in the pharmaceutical industry. The one year Diploma in Pharmacy Practice, allows the student to continue with the degree pathway or sit for the pharmacy examination at University of Colombo for SLMC registration as pharmacist.
