Get Today’s Topmost Employable Design Degree with sure access to over a Hundred Amazing Career Choices

-

The career markets are extremely competitive today. Given this, most students and their parents consider how employable a degree is when choosing higher education avenues. While most degrees give access to about three to four careers at the most, certain versatile qualifications allow students a higher number of career choices, making them more valuable in today’s competitive job market. One such contemporary degree is Graphic Design; a highly versatile degree pathway that gives access to an astounding number of career choices of over a hundred.

Although it may appear to be an unfamilar term for many, graphic communication design is not a novelty to Sri Lankan businesses; all major industries today employ graphic communication designers for various services making it an absolute essential and a highly demanded profession. The reason for this extremely high demand is that visual com designers are needed not only by one business, but almost all businesses. This is because today, all businesses need to push their brand messages out to the consumers through very competitive markets; graphic communication designers are professionals trained to cater to this exact purpose. Currently, due to the limited number of qualified professionals available for employment, there is an extremely high demand for graduating graphic communication designers with recognised degrees. However, due to the lack of awareness of this high career demand, very few school leavers pursue graphic communication as a career. To educate school leavers and their parents about this highly-demanded career path, AOD- Sri Lanka’s celebrated design campus is currently offering free career counselling. AOD is known to align its design education with the country’s industry needs. Responding to the extremely high demand for graphic communication designers, AOD and has opened enrolments for a worldclass degree in graphic design, with its partner Northumbria University UK. 2017 January registrations for this remarkably versatile degree are now in progress.

What is graphic design?

Graphic design is the science of universal communication beyond written language and words. The universal nature of graphic, where people from any age, ethnicity, gender or cultural background will understand the message, is what makes it such a powerful tool for marketing and promotions for businesses. Graphic designers are professionals trained to become experts in creating and assembling images (or videos), typography (letters in specific font styles), sym- bols, colours and visual cues to send out a specific message, exactly as intended. This message can be in several forms according to the need of the client, such as logo design, branding, corporate identity, packaging, advertising or promotions. A graphic designer properly trained with international standard education has a vast knowledge of how visual messages in colour, shapes and symbols are perceived by the general public; therefore they can craft a brand message or a promotion using exactly the right visual elements to create the needed outcome.

Graphic design careers in Sri Lanka

Graphic designers are the creative force behind several essential facets of a business. Promotions and marketing are the most evident and frequent use of graphic design. Here, visual com designers work with businesses to decipher a message about a service or a product into a language that is speaks best to the targeted consumer. Another important use of graphic by businesses is for branding and corporate identity design. Brand identity or corporate identity is the manner in which a corporation, firm or business presents themselves to the public, such as customers and investors as well as employees. In terms of design, it is a combination of colour schemes, symbols, words, etc., that make a visual statement to communicate its business philosophy. This usually includes a logo, perhaps a wordmark (a slogan), a brand persona and also values, missions and visions which define what the organisation is set out to deliver. Other use of graphic design for business includes packaging design, web design, mobile app design, user- experience design, user- interphase design, information design etc.

In Sri Lanka, there are very few qualified graphic designers with international level degree qualifications or an in-depth understanding of what the business world is looking for. Working as a graphic designer in Sri Lanka means that you will be part of the core inhouse marketing-promotions team of a reputed brand or business, or working as a freelance designer with own studio or freelance practice. With the extreme demand in the current market, employment opportunities and chances to succeed through self-employment are both very high.

Despite this favourable situation, not enough school leavers take up graphic design for higher education and then careers. This is mainly because of the lack of awareness on the great opportunities on offer for graphic designers.
