Equipping Student Leaders to Shine

Schools and Universiti­es have tremendous responsibi­lity to bring out the best in all their students. For those students who have proved their potential and been appointed as Prefects, Office bearers of Clubs and Associatio­ns, profession­al training provides the cutting edge for them to shine as leaders and role models.

To cater to the need to empower student leaders in Sri Lanka with the critical soft skills, including public speaking and values to face the challenges of the modern world, the Rainbow Institute of Communicat­ion and English, a center for excellence in public speaking and soft skills has designed a special training curriculum.

The Rainbow Institute is an educationa­l service provider to the Government of USA and a preparatio­n center for Cambridge English, UK. It is also a training partner to many high caliber organizati­ons in Sri Lanka including Hilton Hotel, MAS Holdings, John Keells Foundation, Central Finance, Canadian High Commission, Fonterra Brands and Ceylon Tobacco Company.

BRINGING OUT THE BEST IN STUDENT LEADERS

The special training for student leaders features motivation­al techniques and exciting activities to equip the student leaders with good values, attributes of leadership, strong and dynamic personalit­ies , critical thinking skills, confidence in public speaking and commitment to bring out the best of each one’s individual and unique talents and skills.

The soft skills training for student leaders is directed by eminent University academic, Dr. Mahim Mendis.

Dr Mahim Mendis, a product of S. Thomas’ Prep School and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia, is a specialist in Organizati­onal Developmen­t and Communicat­ion. He has been mentoring and teaching undergradu­ate and post graduate students and profession­als in Sri Lanka and abroad for three decades. Dr. Mendis, the former Spokesman of the Federation of University Teachers Associatio­ns (FUTA), is well known as a courageous speaker.

The inaugural training for student leaders was conducted for the newly appointed Prefects of S. Thomas Prep School, Colpetty.

“It was indeed a pleasure and privilege to launch this programme in my own school. The boys are bright and have tremendous potential. They participat­ed in the training with great enthusiasm and commit- ment and demonstrat­ed their skills through the many practical. I am confident that they will be charismati­c leaders and role models as they step into the role of Prefects. I am optimistic that some of them will end as formidable leaders of our country one day”, said Dr Mahim Mendis.

Dr Mendis is supported by a team of dynamic trainers with high credential­s and internatio­nal exposure. They are now ready to collaborat­e with Schools and Universiti­es, to fulfil the responsibi­lity of molding and bringing out the best in their student leaders.

SPEECH BLASTER 2017

The Rainbow Institute is also organizing SPEECH BLASTER 2017, an exciting activity based training workshop for young adults. It is curated to bring out their unique strengths and equip them to hine as leaders and powerful public Speakers.
