Internationally recognised Teaching qualifications

Professional Diplomas to Masters at the Gateway Graduate School

-

With the advancement of private education, teaching is emerging as an attractive career in Sri Lanka. In addition to being a rewarding career, teaching is considered by many as a profession that provides a good work-life balance. One of the main draw backs for young aspirants in taking to teaching has so far been the lack of opportunities in career progress. Gateway Graduate School that is supported by the network of Gateway Colleges has come forward to address this issue by offering internationally accepted teaching qualifications from world renowned organisations such as Pearson Edexcel and University of Nottingham.

Gateway Graduate Schools in Colombo and Kandy have successfully conducted the Edexcel Professional Diploma in Teaching (equivalent to a first year of a degree) and the Edexcel Professional Diploma in Advanced Teaching (equivalent to a second year of a degree) over the last 4 years. In this short period of time Gateway has had 17 intakes in Colombo and 12 intakes in Kandy. With the partnership with University of Nottingham Malaysia these students are able to complete an MA in Education in Sri Lanka at a fraction of the cost of studying overseas. Further, graduates who have reasonable teaching experience too could enroll in the MA programme directly, so that they could add value to themselves by obtaining a world renowned Masters teaching qualification.

The first batch of MA students graduated a few months ago. The British Masters in Education, offered in Sri Lanka for the very first time, is delivered by the fly-in campus of the University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus (UNMC). The course is conducted on a part time basis over 18-24 months.

Teaching is carried out by the UNMC faculty on a face-to-face basis at the Gateway Graduate School during their visits to Sri Lanka during school vacations in April, August and December. Students also have the opportunity of doing one module in Malaysia during a week’s stay in the University campus. Students are also enrolled in a Virtual Learning Environment with access to the library and other online resources. The successful graduates will be invited by UNMC to attend their graduation ceremony.

Gateway has signed up with NDB Bank to provide an exciting new student loan scheme that would ease the burden of students and parents. The low interest scheme is designed in a way where the students are required to pay interest only during the study period and pay back the capital once qualified when they could easily find employment. With a total payback period of 8 years the loan scheme is most attractive.

The next intake for both Levels 4 and 5 in Colombo and Kandy will be in February and March 2017. Registration for the third batch of Masters programme will open shortly. Further details can be obtained by calling Rushika (Colombo) - 0772256356, 2583848, 2593213 or Limali (Kandy) – 0777687673, 0812203377 or by writing to info@gatewaygraduateschool.com
