Police continue probe on cooked up medical certificat­es at National Hospital

Police are probing a racket where medical certificat­es, using forged rubber stamps of National Hospital staff including doctors, were issued to government employees.

The racket came to light after a cook attached to the National Hospital was apprehende­d issuing these MCs .

Duplicate rubber stamps of the hospital's chief accountant, two cardiology specialist­s and six other specialist­s had been used in these medical certificat­es that were sold between Rs 500 and Rs. 1,000 each.

The Police Intelligen­ce Unit that conducted a raid found the medical certificat­e books as well as the forged rubber stamps .

The suspect identified as 46- year- old R.M Chaminda Priyankara Perera, had worked at the hospital kitchen for five years. He was arrested and produced before Maligakand­a Magistrate Dulari Weeraratna who remanded him and subsequent­ly released him on bail.

The Magistrate also ordered the suspect to report to the Maradana police on the last Sunday of every month.
