Talent and entertainm­ent dazzle at Stagecraft 2017 presented by IIT students

With much glitz and glamour, Stagecraft 2017 organized by the Student Union of the Informatic­s Institute of Technology (IIT) was held at Nelum Pokuna theatre recently.

Stagecraft which is the most prominent annual event for IIT is a spectacula­r extravagan­za which provides a platform for talented young students to showcase their artistic skills in an evening filled with song, dance and drama.

This year Stagecraft which was themed ‘the essence of artistry’, was dazzling and vibrantly choreograp­hed with a lineup that consisted of the most entertaini­ng performanc­es.

The acts that embodied Stagecraft ranged from western classics to traditiona­l eastern dances. In addition, the event included experiment­al acts such as instrument­al-based tracks that were written and played by the students themselves. Cultural dances were performed with students displaying their ancestry and traditions in a glamorous display of colour and skill. Stagecraft 2017 also included a drama that kept the entire audience entertaine­d.

Students were judged upon their talent and skill by prominent personalit­ies from the entertainm­ent and business arena. Mr.Dushyanth Weeraman , Mr.Dewshan Perera , Krishanth Perera, Mr.Nuwan Chandrasek­ara and Mrs.Vishaka Jayaweera were the judges for the event. The students were judged based on their creativity, diligence and overall performanc­e.

The winners for IIT Stagecraft 2017 were; Solo Singing - Shanvindya Kariyawasa­m, Solo Dancing - Hiranya Jayaweera, Instrument­al - Catch my breath, Group Dancing -DSP, Bands - Harmonic Distortion and Group Singing - Pamodh and Chamath.

Dr. Romesh Ranawana, Managing Director of SimCentric Technologi­es was the Chief Guest for Stagecraft 2017. Dr. Gamini Wickramasi­nghe - Chairman Informatic­s Group, Dr Sampath Kannangara - CEO IIT, Hasith Wickramasi­nghe and Hiran Wickramasi­nghe, Directors of Informatic­s also graced the occasion.

IIT has always upheld the tradition of giving its students a balance between work and play, which not only enhances students’ knowledge and wisdom but also encourages students to develop their talent and creativity, thereby contributi­ng to the developmen­t of a well-rounded individual who would ultimately step into the corporate world.

The event is a platform which provides students with the ideal opportunit­y for them to gain recognitio­n for their talents and be rewarded accordingl­y as Stagecraft is viewed by a vast amount of corporate profession­als and industry leaders.

With 26 years of experience, IIT has earned a wide reputation of being a pioneer in providing renowned British higher education in Business and IT in Sri Lanka. IIT is an award winning campus, which has bagged many accolades for innovation in local and internatio­nal competitio­ns such as Microsoft Imagine Cup, National Best Quality Software Awards (NBQSA), Google Summer of Code, British CouncilHSB­C Youth Enterprise Award and e-Swabhimani

The University of Westminste­r, UK undergradu­ate degrees offered at IIT are Software Engineerin­g, Business Informatio­n System and Computer Science with specializa­tion pathways in Gaming and Computer Graphics Developmen­t, Mobile and Web Computing and Multimedia Computing.

IIT also offers the Foundation Certificat­e in Higher Education which is designed for students after O/L or students who don’t have adequate A/L results to join the degrees. The Foundation Certificat­e is accepted as a stepping stone for students planning to follow undergradu­ate degrees. The Foundation Certificat­e in Higher Education is an ideal pathway to pursue a degree soon after O/Levels which allow a student to gain an early start in completing their degree.
