The CTU claimed this has happened while inquiries on the issues reported in the 2016 Grade 1 admissions WP are ongoing.

They said that the Auditor General's Dept, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka and the WP Governor's Office are conducting 3 inquiries regarding the addition of an extra Grade 1 class to 21 popular schools in the province in 2016, on the orders of the WP Education Minister.

The CTU said the the Provincial Education Director's report dated 01.08.2016, has noted that the addition of an extra Grade 1 class to the 21 schools was inappropriate.

They also said that many students who had been studying in other schools were last year admitted to these 21 popular schools only after 8 months.

The CTU said they will take strict legal action if political influences to Grade 1 admissions are not terminated.
