Wycherley Int. clash with Colombo Int. on March 25

The 22nd annual cricket encounter for the Lalith Athulathmu­dali Trophy between Wycherley Internatio­nal School and Colombo Internatio­nal School will take place at the Thurstan College ground next Saturday (March 25) commencing at 9.00am.

Wycherley Internatio­nal leads the tally with 11 wins while the Colombo Internatio­nal School had emerged victorious on 9 outings with one drawn encounter in 2008.

Colombo Internatio­nal will take the field under the leadership of Amrie Hassan and Wycherley Internatio­nal will be led by Tariq Haniff.

A high standard of cricket was witnessed in the past encounters and in this

Fyear’s match will no doubt maintain the high standard that was exhibited in the previous matches and will be played maintainin­g the true sprit of sportsmans­hip maintainin­g the highest traditions of the game.

Students of both Wycherley and Colombo Internatio­nal School have many demands on their time through academic, extra-curricular and other sporting commitment­s. Despite these demands, the standard of cricket has improved each year with more discipline­d batting, consistent bowling and athletic fielding.

Matale and Royal College Panadura propelled Rahula College Matara to the top of Group ‘B’ of the 2016/2017 All Island Schools Under-19 Division II cricket tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Associatio­n (SLSCA). The only match they lost was their opening game of the tournament with St. Anne’s College Kurunegala.

With this great performanc­e Rahula College have qualified for the quarterfin­als of the Division II tournament and if their good form persists and lady luck looks kindly on them, they are just two games away from securing a place in the elite division one tournament next season.
