Ed Sheeran

-

It is an unprecedented for the UK singles top ten chart as Ed Sheeran has secured nine out of the top 10 hits. As the 25 year old ginger haired singer keeps the No: 1 song ‘Shape Of You’ for a ninth week, the release of his new album ‘÷’ unleashed all the songs with fans downloading or just streaming them. The domino effect set in as eight songs debuted on the top 10 at No: 2 ‘Galway Girl’, 4: ‘Perfect’, 5: ‘New Man’, 6: ‘Happier’, 8: ‘Drive’, 9: ‘Supermarket Flowers’ and 10: ‘What Do I Know’. Outside the top 10 and up to No: 20 Sheeran saw another six songs from his album ‘÷’ debut mostly from the deluxe edition. In short Ed Sheeran has set a new record for the most number of songs to debut on the UK singles chart in a single week. Ed Sheeran has a combined 672,000 sales of his songs this week on the chart. In the days gone by, only a released single could enter the chart as only sales were counted. But things have changed with digitalization. Additionally his album has also debuted at the top of the UK album chart. Will Sheeran be able to hold the momentum next week and will it all settle next week? With Sheeran dominating the top rung of the UK singles chart there was little opportunity of the other songs break on to the chart. The new song Green Light’ by New Zealand pop star Lorde had to debut at No: 28. She has meanwhile corrected the date of album release, ‘Melodrama’ to 16th June.
