Opening Doors to High-Flying Careers with Embry Riddle University, USA & Singapore
ANC Education, the leading transnational education provider in Sri Lanka, recently concluded a successful information session conducted by the representatives of Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), which is the world’s largest fully accredited university specializing in aviation and aerospace - reaching out to local students with dreams to find high-flying careers in the aeronautical industry. The event was held on the 18th of this month at Taj Samudra, Colombo, and it attracted an overwhelming number of students and parents coming from across the country in search of worldclass higher education options. Local students and parents who attended the event secured the opportunity to receive firsthand information from the ERAU representatives to make a well-versed decision before investing in an aviation degree abroad.
The session included an introductory speech by Director of International Re c r u i t m e n t o f Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University, Krishti Chatterjee who gave an overview of ERAU programs and admission requirements. Following that, a panel discussion was held with the industry experts including Capt. Suren Ratwatte- CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines and Qadir Saheed – an ULIP Business Partner for Marketing at Unilever/an Advanced Engineer at MAS Innovation (Pvt) Ltd in Sri Lanka with a wealth of experience in the industry, who shed light into the aviation industry in Sri Lanka a n d career prospects both locally and internationally.
Capt. Suren Ratwatte is a Royalist who graduated with a BSc and an MSc in Human Factors in Aviation from EmbryRiddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach Campus, USA and has years of experience in the aviation industry working as a pilot at Air Lanka, and as a Human Factors Manager and Captain at Emirates Airlines. Qadir Saheed who is a past student of Overseas School of Colombo also graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautic al University in Daytona Beach Campus, USA. He has been involved in senior design projects with Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and Price Induction Inc – and is a prize winner of the Worldwide Aircraft Design Competition. Both Capt. Ratwatte and Saheed added great insight into the session, while sharing their knowledge and experience to encourage aspiring stu- dents to pursue their dreams.
Consular Chief of the US Embassy Sally Sternal also graced the event with her presence along with Mr Joseph Schaller - Cultural Affairs Officer and shared some facts and figures of US education while briefing students about requirements and visa regulations to study in the US. She explained the Visa process in detail and complemented ANC for expanding the horizons of local students by allowing them to explore futuristic education options available for them in the US – a country that invests in innovation, technology and research excellence.
At the event, prospective students were screened for eligibility in terms of O/Level and A/Level grades, English proficiency and finance etc. - and several students who applied to ERAU through ANC secured the chance to receive application fee waivers. Students as well as parents who attended the session found it to be very informative and thanked ANC for inviting the representatives of ERAU to Sri Lanka to help local students explore rewarding higher education options in the US – enabling them to enter lucrative careers in the aviation industry.
