Opening Doors to High-Flying Careers with Embry Riddle University, USA & Singapore

ANC Education, the leading transnatio­nal education provider in Sri Lanka, recently concluded a successful informatio­n session conducted by the representa­tives of Embry- Riddle Aeronautic­al University (ERAU), which is the world’s largest fully accredited university specializi­ng in aviation and aerospace - reaching out to local students with dreams to find high-flying careers in the aeronautic­al industry. The event was held on the 18th of this month at Taj Samudra, Colombo, and it attracted an overwhelmi­ng number of students and parents coming from across the country in search of worldclass higher education options. Local students and parents who attended the event secured the opportunit­y to receive firsthand informatio­n from the ERAU representa­tives to make a well-versed decision before investing in an aviation degree abroad.

The session included an introducto­ry speech by Director of Internatio­nal Re c r u i t m e n t o f Embry- Riddle Aeronautic­al University, Krishti Chatterjee who gave an overview of ERAU programs and admission requiremen­ts. Following that, a panel discussion was held with the industry experts including Capt. Suren Ratwatte- CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines and Qadir Saheed – an ULIP Business Partner for Marketing at Unilever/an Advanced Engineer at MAS Innovation (Pvt) Ltd in Sri Lanka with a wealth of experience in the industry, who shed light into the aviation industry in Sri Lanka a n d career prospects both locally and internatio­nally.

Capt. Suren Ratwatte is a Royalist who graduated with a BSc and an MSc in Human Factors in Aviation from EmbryRiddl­e Aeronautic­al University in Daytona Beach Campus, USA and has years of experience in the aviation industry working as a pilot at Air Lanka, and as a Human Factors Manager and Captain at Emirates Airlines. Qadir Saheed who is a past student of Overseas School of Colombo also graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautic al University in Daytona Beach Campus, USA. He has been involved in senior design projects with Gulfstream Aerospace Corporatio­n and Price Induction Inc – and is a prize winner of the Worldwide Aircraft Design Competitio­n. Both Capt. Ratwatte and Saheed added great insight into the session, while sharing their knowledge and experience to encourage aspiring stu- dents to pursue their dreams.

Consular Chief of the US Embassy Sally Sternal also graced the event with her presence along with Mr Joseph Schaller - Cultural Affairs Officer and shared some facts and figures of US education while briefing students about requiremen­ts and visa regulation­s to study in the US. She explained the Visa process in detail and complement­ed ANC for expanding the horizons of local students by allowing them to explore futuristic education options available for them in the US – a country that invests in innovation, technology and research excellence.

At the event, prospectiv­e students were screened for eligibilit­y in terms of O/Level and A/Level grades, English proficienc­y and finance etc. - and several students who applied to ERAU through ANC secured the chance to receive applicatio­n fee waivers. Students as well as parents who attended the session found it to be very informativ­e and thanked ANC for inviting the representa­tives of ERAU to Sri Lanka to help local students explore rewarding higher education options in the US – enabling them to enter lucrative careers in the aviation industry.
