Cma To Celebrate Internatio­nal Women’s Day By Grant of 100 Scholrship­s To Women

The Institute of Certified Management Accountant­s (CMA) of Sri Lanka the Profession­al Management Accounting Body in Sri Lanka Incorporat­ed by Parliament Act will award 100 Scholarshi­ps to commemorat­e Internatio­nal Women’s day which fell on 8th March 2017.

CMA has taken the initiative to grant 100 scholarshi­ps for women to achieve Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goal for which states to ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning. Obtaining a quality education is the foundation to improving people’s lives and sustainabl­e developmen­t and is a UN goal which will be practiced by CMA which is a national profession­al management accounting body. .

CMA has been awarding many scholarshi­ps for the past several years but the decision to give 100 scholarshi­ps especially for women to commemorat­e the Internatio­nal Women’s Day and promote management accountanc­y among deserving students. The Institute of Certified Management Accountant­s (CMA) of Sri Lanka is a member of SAFA (South Asian Federation of Accountant­s) and serves on the Governing Board of SAFA, CMA is a Member of Internatio­nal Federation of Accountant­s (IFAC) .IFAC is the Global organizati­on for the accountanc­y profession with 175 members and associates from 130 countries representi­ng 3 million accountant­s in Public Practice, Education, Government Service, Industry and Commerce. CMA is also a member of the Confederat­ion of Asian and pacific Accountant­s (CAPA).

The granting of scholarshi­ps to women is intended to act as a catalyst to increase the number of women management accountant­s in the country and to provide them with good jobs in the public and private sector, non-government­al sector and as academics in the Universiti­es and Technical Colleges. In developing as well as developed economies, management accountant­s are very much in demand and play critical roles in public and private sector finance and management accounting and managerial roles.

The scholarshi­ps will be classified under the following categories and those applying should indicate the category under which they are applying. 1. Graduates, 2. Undergradu­ates 3. Students of Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technologi­cal Education (SLIATE). 4. Those with 3 A/L passes. 5. Private and public sector employees with accounting background. 6. Those with part and full accounting qualificat­ions. 7. Housewives seeking employment or work from home 8. An exceptiona­l sports
