The Chartered Corporate Secretary is governance profession­al and occupies a strategic position within an organizati­on.

The Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretarie­s of Sri Lanka (ICCS) is the sole body in Sri Lanka that can award the qualificat­ion of a Chartered Corporate Secretary. On completion of the programmer of study, successful candidates qualify to register themselves with the Registrar of Companies as Company Secretarie­s. The ICCS is registered with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka as an official body to conduct classes, examinatio­ns and issue certificat­es for the prestigiou­s qualificat­ion of Chartered Corporate Secretary. ICCS is also registered with the Organizati­on of Profession­al Associatio­ns of Sri Lanka (OPA) and has been classified in the Group of Management Profession­als in the OPA. The Institute is also a member of the Corporate Secretarie­s Internatio­nal Associatio­n (CSIA) which is a world body of Corporate Secretarie­s.

The Company Secretary is a high level profession­al holding senior status in a private sector or public sector organiasat­ion in the form of a managerial or higher position.
