-

The Interact Club of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, recently visited a school in a remote location in Mattala in the Hambantota District, to celebrate Sinhala and Tamil New Year with students there.

The Club made it an occasion to take gifts and food to Palle Mattala Junior School to enjoy and share the New Year with those underprivileged children. They presented educational kits, books and uniforms to the children who excelled in the grade five scholarship examinations from this school. Further the Interact Club donated a computer and a water tank for the school. They undertook to reduce the burden of funds for the school by donating chairs, desks and providing material to the library. A mother of a child was donated a sewing machine. The Principal of the school Sunil Santha thanked the gesture of the Visakha Vidyalaya Principal, Sandamali Aviruppola, and the staff member of the Interact Club. A final-year undergraduate of Peradeniya University, Omasha Jayamini Silva who scaled Mount Everest recently, was felicitated by the Kaldamulla Welfare Society, with Provincial Councillor Senaka Damayantha Silva doing the honours.
