Mihiliya and Ravindu emerge as top squash players
Young squash players ranging from Under 8 to Under 19 age groups stole the limelight at the Sri Lanka Squash conducted Premadasa Squash Championship 2017 concluded at the Sugathadasa Squash Courts Complex last weekend.
Apart from the main event in Women’s and Men’s Open Singles finals where Mihiliya Methsarani and Ravindu Laksiri emerged champs and focus fell on the young squash players’ events. These youngsters exhibited high quality squash and proved that a bright future lays ahead of the game and will make Sri Lanka a side to be reckoned in the Asian map in the near future.
In this championship the enthusiasm showed by these youngsters was highly appreciated by the organisers and will take a big effort for the improvement of the game in Sri Lanka.
It is also learnt that SLS will be implementing an islandwide programme to popularise the game in the outstations in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports in June. Kandy, Jaffna and Galle were earmarked for Phase I of the programme.
