MAF’s 23rd AGM

The Moratuwa Arts Forum (MAF) will be hosting their 23rd Annual General Meeting on 23rd April 2017 at the Sri Palee Hall, Moratuwa.

Traditiona­lly the AGM will begin with thee ceremonial segment followed by the business sessions and the election of office bearers and the committee of management. There would also be a few entertainm­ent items lined up to add colour to the ceremonial segment along with presentati­on of awards. There would be several dignitarie­s inviteded for the ceremonial segment who are also there with MAF supporting their cause of Identifyin­g Talented Youth of Moratuwa and lifting them up.

Formation of Moratuwa Arts Forum was initiated jointly by Tilak Perera and Late Kumar Peiris. It was Latete Asoka Peiris who took the mantel of Charter President and laid a solid foundation and on that Moratuwa Arts Forum was built and continued for the past 22 years going from strength to strength. To name a few of the regular main projects they launched was - “Punsanda Paaya”, Down Memory Lane and “Gayamu Eda Gee” that are now household words and the moment one of them are announced people throng for these shows to be entertaine­d.

They now take these presentati­ons as their social responsibi­lity since the Moratuwite­s wait for them to be organised. Apart from Moratuwa there are some who come from outstation even as far as Anuradhapu­ra and several regulars from Negombo especially for the “Down Memory Lane” Sing along where Golden Oldies are brought out.

Apart from these entertainm­ent projects they have done projects for education, artistic developmen­t, youth upliftment and not forgetting the hallowed duty by the community fulfilling obligation­s of social responsibi­lity as well. Social responsibi­lity projects like Health Camps; Career Building for Advanced Level Children, entertaini­ng the residents of elder’s homes, Mental Hospital and also Vesak and Christmas programmes. They have also conducted talent scouting events for Singers, Instrument­alists Western and Oriental, poem competitio­ns and art competitio­ns for school children. These are a few that are mentioned out of the numerous social responsibi­lity projects conducted.
