SL Army, Renown and Super Sun qualify for FA Cup quarters

Sri Lanka Army SC and Renown SC qualified for the quarter-finals of the Cargills FA Cup football tournament . Army overcame Navy 4-1 and Renown SC drubbed Brilliant SC Ampara 8-0 yesterday.

The Army-Navy game took place at the Navy ground. In the first half Army led 1-0 with M.T. Chandrasek­era netting in the goal in the ninth minute. The second goal was scored by Sajith Kumara (68th minute). P.A.D.S Madushan scored an own goal in the 84th minute and M.N.M. Izzadeen (87th minute) scored the goals for Army. Navy’s only goal was scored by A.A.N. Roshan in the76th minute.

The Renown vs Brilliant SC game took place at the Kelaniya Football Complex where Renown gained an easy 8-0 win. At the breather Renown SC led 3-0. M.C.M. Rifnas (scored 3 goals in the 17th, 19th and 90th minutes). M.M.M. Fasal scored two goals (29th and 89th minutes), M.F.M. Asath (scored in the 65th minute) and the last goal was netted in by G.P.D. Priyadarsh­ana in the 80th minute.

Three teams have so far qualified for the FA Cup quarter-finals. Before this game, Super Sun Beruwala beat St. Mary’s Jaffna 1-0. Renown and Army too have qualified.

Today's pre-quarter final matches: Air Force vs Matara City at Welisara; Saunders vs Negombo Youth at Kelaniya; Java Lane vs Crystal Palace at City League; Pelicans vs Colombo FC at Kurunegala.

Tomorrow: Singing Fish Jaffna vs Blue Star at Duraiyappa Stadium, Jaffna.

The quarter-finals (on May 6 and 7) and the semi-finals will be on May 12. The finals will be on May 20.All games at the Sugathadas­a Stadium.
