O/L IT, A/L General IT exams online by 2020: Exams Dept

-

Ordinary Level (O/L) IT and Advanced Level (A/L) General Information Technology (GIT) subjects will be done online by 2019 or 2020, under the ongoing 3- year digitalisation programme by the Dept of Exams (DoE), a senior official said.

Commissioner General (CG) of Exams W. M . N . J . Pushpakumara said that discussions are still ongoing with the Ministry of Education (MoE) on how the project should be implemented for the A/L GIT subject. The project will be expanded to some parts of other subjects as well in the future.

The CG said the students would have the option to access the necessary fa c i l i t i e s through the computers in their schools, nearby GA offices, Nenasala centres or, from the special computers provided by the MoE.

He stated that, by doing so, students overseas would also be able to take our local O/ L and A/L exams, which would take our exams to the international level.

Meanwhile, the DoE, for the first time, will soon issue official certificates to students successful at the O/L and A/L exams, free of charge.

The DoE said the certifi- cates, about 600,000 in all, could be sent to the school or, to the email addresses provided, and can be issued within a week

Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has also instructed to introduce the digital exam concept along with the digital classroom, to make the current exam process less complicated and student-friendly.
