GCE O/L Students of Homagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Model School recorded excellent results in both Sinhala and English mediums at the 2016 exam.

All 152 English medium students have been selected for the Advanced Level class.

Of the 673 students who sat the exam, 668 passed the exam, with 63 scoring ' A's in all 9 subjects, while another 87 secured 'A's in 8 subjects.

A further 426 students secured 'A's in 5 or more subjects.

MP Bandula Gunawardane who played a key role as Education Minister, when the School was founded in 2011, told the Sunday Times, he is delighted with the results and his expectation is to ensure that all these students enter University.

“This was the first National school in the Homagama electorate. Now, it has more than 6,000 students with about 220 teachers,” he said.

Moreover, the students have won a number of awards at many local and international competitions," he said.

The former Minister further said that, these students had also scored more than 140 marks at their Grade 5 Scholarship exam.

He added that, the initial plan was to teach all the students only in English, from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm, which, however, lasted only for a short while.
