Young Ihsaan is aiming for great heights in TT
Young Ihsaan Faleel, an eightyear-old promising paddler from Wesley College, has already claimed a few Table Tennis titles. To the long list of titles, he has secured up until now, since beginning training Table Tennis, Ihsaan added three more feats by March and April this year.
The bubbly star, emerged runner-up, in the Boy’s Under-8 All-Island Novices Championship, organised by the Women’s Working Group Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka. The tournament was held on March 4 and 5.
On April 7, Ihsaan became champion in the Boy’s Under-8 All-Island International, Private and Semi-Government Schools Table Tennis Championships. He beat Praveen Kaushalya of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo in straight sets in the final, with the scores of 11-3 and 11-2, at the event conducted by the PingPong Academy.
“I love Table Tennis and I never get tired of playing the game,” young Ihsaan said after his recent wins.
Ihsaan has been in the game since he was a mere five-yearold and seems to enjoy every bit of the sport. More recently, Ishaan stole the limelight at the Western Province Junior Ranking Table Tennis Championship held at S. Thomas’ College Courts in Mount Lavinia. The keenly contested games held on April 8 and 9; saw the lad from Wesley, beating Akil Lakdiv of Royal College in the final. Ihsaan beat Akil with the scores of 9-11, 11-5 and 11-7 to comprehensively win the championship.
Ihsaan is trained by former National champions, Jothipala Samaraweera, Namal Gunasekara and former Sri Lankan and Scottish National player, Hasitha Samaraweera. The talented youngster aspires for greater achievements in Table Tennis, and is already in the process of dashing his way through. His aim is to make Sri Lanka proud one day.
