‘Sri Lanka Design Code 2017’ launches at Trace Expert City, Maradana

- How do the Dark Web operators transact? Is it safe to access the Dark Web?

Since the real word money trail carries the danger of exposure, Dark Web operators transact in virtual currencies, the most popular being Bitcoins. In the recent cyberattacks involving Ransomware, the operators demanded from their victims ransom payment ranging between $300 and $600 through Bitcoins.

The near- unanimous opinion is to stay away from the Dark Web because it is inherently unsafe. It is so easy to lose your way, and valuables such as money and data in the Dark Web.

‘Sri Lanka Design Code 2017’ exhibition organised by the Department of Integrated Design, University of Moratuwa launched at Trace Expert City, Maradhana on 20th of May. The exhibition features the design executions of students in every academic year, Design talks, a series of discussions by industry experts and foreign designers, workshops which focus school students, etc. The products developed by taking bamboo as a raw material, empowering young design entrepreneurship and local craft economy are also presented at the exhibition. The department has also organized an outdoor fashion ramp at the exhibition which is to exhibit ‘AvantGarde’ and graduation collections. The exhibition is a big step towards establishing a design industry in Sri Lanka.

I t ’ s a well- known fact that the University of Moratuwa is the most hunted technological Universitis in Sri Lanka. The creativity of students, which is challenged by the conventional method of university entry based on the advanced level, is to be preserved as a national re s p o n s i b i l i t y. In the Department of Integrated Design studies are conducted via three streams: Media and Communication Design, Product Design, and Fashion and Lifestyle Design. Continuous assessments based on modules are used to assess the students, which are supported by field visits, and workshops. Building connections between foreign and local universities, widening the exposure of students in the design industry has been identified as a social and an economical need. Completing the tangle of creativity and technology, the Department of Integrated Design stands as the peerless government university specialized in the field of design in Sri Lanka. Addressing the necessities of the Sri Lankan design industry through a unique learning pro- cess, it acts as the integrated solution in design innovations. ‘ Sri Lanka Design Code 2017’ is a good platform to carry out this mission and as well as it caters to the emerging design economy in Sri Lanka.
