YMBA and Ratnapura Buddhist Society join hands for a Workshop on Entrepreneurship
On 30th April 2017 a workshop was held aimed at identifying and resolving the issues faced by local small and medium business owners as well as empowering them as an important collective in the nation.The workshop was attended by more than 100 such entrepreneurs in the Ratnapura District.
President of the YMBA Sumedha Amarasinghe,Mr. Sunil S. Sirisena (Former Secretary of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, former Chairman of the National Savings Bank, and former DirectorGeneral ofthe Telecommunications Regulatory Commission) began the proceedings by stating the goalsof the workshop.
Key business leaders in Sri Lanka, including D. K. Rajapaksa (Managing Director of DSI), Mahendra Jayasekera (Managing Director of LankaTiles), Specialist Doctor Lasantha Malavige (Chairman of Lassana Flora) and Padmasiri Ranawakarachchi (Director of the Employee Trust Fund and Human Resource Advisor), helped make the workshop even more of a success with several lectures on improving business effectiveness and human resource management.
A key highlight of what followed was a lecture delivered by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission on how the dissemination of Information Technology can aid entrepreneurship in the economy. Judging by the comments and ideas expressed by the entrepreneurs during and after the workshop, the event was held to be a resounding success. Moreover, the officials of the Colombo YMBA listened and acceded tothe requests made by the participants to organise and hold more workshops like this.
The YMBA has planned out a series of such workshops in other parts of the country, spanning all districts and aimed at small and medium business owners.
