The Overseas School of Colombo ( OSC) created history by winning the South Asian International Schools Association ( SAISA) 2017 Tr a ck and Field Competition which was held at the school g round in Battaramulla.

OSC athletes, who are known as Geckos, earned 675 points overall to claim the overall first place. The OSC was represented by six teams --- three teams each in boy’s and girls’ -- and five of them won first place overall while the remaining team was placed second overall.

Preparing for the big event, OSC began their season back in January with 50 athletes trying out for the final 30 places.

“They trained extremely hard all season and were totally ready and eager to start. They dominated the competition right from that start and our Gecko athletes were on the podium time and time again. Every one of our athletes earned a medal,” an official of OSC stated.

“As always the Gecko athletes represented OSC with pride and determination. The OSC team spirit was very much alive and the senior athletes helped the younger ones,” he added.

Nine International School teams representing all South Asian countries took part in the event which was held during April 20 to 22. The three-day competition had events under three different age groups, namely 10 to 12, 13 to 14 and 15 to 19. Hosts OSC finished overall first in boys and girls segments in the 15 to 19 and 13 to 14 age groups while the girls team of 10 to 12 was also placed overall first. The boys 10 to 12 team was placed overall second.
