Globally the Medical and Health Care Sector is Booming

Medical Education is embarked upon a process of fundamental change. The traditional approach hardly questioned for decades, is now being seriously challenged. The pressure are not so much from the medical school faculties, who have been rearranging and adding to the curriculum for years as they are from forces outside the faculties. Globally the truly significant pressure for change has come from students and from practicing physicians. These pressures have brought about vigorous ferment in medical education. It is certain that in the future there will be a new direction or even a new order in terms of medical education and practice.

When it comes to job growth in the Medical Practitioners and Generally in the health Care segment globally, the good news is that while other sectors in the economy seem to languish with a slow growth rate of 8.99% from 2016 to 2022 Medical and Health care sector projected to grow at a rate of 26.5% during the said period.

It is not as complicated as rocket science or Heart Surgery to understand that the Medical and Health care sector is growing in Sri Lanka and will continue to grow during the next half a century or so by cre- ating many new opportunities with the technological evolution in the field. The phenomenal growth of the sector in Developing countries such as Sri Lanka and the demand that will create in terms of Qualified and Trainedprofessionals in the field of Medicine will not be met by the local University Medical graduates.
