Annual prize giving of Convent of Our Lady of Victories
The Annual Prize Giving of Convent of Our Lady of Victories was held recently and the Chief Guest was the Apostolic Nuncio Most Rev. Dr. Pierre Ngoyan Van Tot. As it was held just after the United Nations International Vesak Celebrations, the Nuncio outlined some ideas from the Pope’s message for this occasion. The Pope had stressed the urgent need to promote a culture of peace and non violence as both these values were promoted by Jesus Christ and the Lord Buddha.
The Principal, Rev. Sr. Chamila Fernando presented the Annual Report of the school. The theme chosen for this year was ‘Rekindle the Spirit within, with the light of Christ’. The theme was appropriate as this year is dedicated to the Apostolic Saint of Sri Lanka, St. Joseph Vaz. She further emphasized the need to promote strong family ties to strengthen the relationships among the spouses and among the parents and children. She also mentioned that Convent of Our Lady of Victories is the only private school managed by the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary and counts 131 years of its existence. It has produced many students who have excelled in their chosen fields.
