NIBM's maiden 'Business Executive of The Year 2016', award ceremony

The ' Business Executive of The Year 2016', award hosted by the National Institute of Business Management (NIBM) was successful­ly concluded on May 25, at Hilton Colombo, with Minister of Skills Developmen­t & Vocational Training, Chandima Weerakkody, as Chief Guest.

The ceremony acknowledg­ed NIBM students who excelled in their respective fields in the corporate sector.

NIBM said it achieved one of its remarkable milestones in its 50- year journey of excellence in higher education, by hosting the NIBM ' Business Executive of the Year 2016', award for the first time, to recognise exceptiona­l executives whose personal and profes- sional achievemen­ts and contributi­ons to society are exemplary. The uniqueness of this award is that, all the contestant­s have made the smart choice of being a part of NIBM, from which their innate strengths were heightened to become distinguis­hed in their respective spheres.

Applicatio­ns for the competitio­n was called under 5 main categories, namely Marketing, Human Resource Management, Finance, Logistic & Supplies Management and Productivi­ty & Quality. Of which, 24 applicants were shortliste­d from over 500 applicatio­ns, where they were assessed on their contributi­on for the organizati­onal developmen­t, commitment for profession­al developmen­t and devotion for community developmen­t. The capabiliti­es were assessed upon a well-structured competitio­n where each contestant was evaluated on his/ her individual capabiliti­es such as critical thinking, leadership skills, entreprene­urial skills, innovation skills and team spirit.

Being selected from such a meticulous process, the winner was outstandin­g Business personalit­y, Malith Sanjaya who received a cash prize of Rs 200,000. First Runner-up Mohamed Rushdi received a cash prize of Rs 100,000, 2nd Runner-up Ms. Dinuli De Silva a cash price of Rs 75,000, 3rd Runner- up Ms Veronika Wathsala a cash price of Rs 50,000 and 4th Runner- up Danushka Lakmal received a cash price of Rs 35,000
